About my music background

My Background: These are the following instruments I have been teaching one on one since since 2006: Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass, Trumpet, Guitars: Electric, Acoustic, and Bass, Keyboards: Electric and Acoustic MY EDUCATION is as follows: 1988 – 1993 University of Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut Music Education Program Completed 30 Graduate credits. 1980 – 1982 Miami University, Oxford, Ohio Bachelor of Arts in Music Education 1973 – 1977 Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio. My Music PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 2nd Semester of 1982 Middletown High School Orchestra. Middletown, Ohio (That was my Student Teaching course). Teaching for String Classes in grades 5 to12 from 1982-1985 in Oconee County School District, South Carolina I Taught String Instruments classes for 5th grade to 12th. Then from1986–2005 I was the Strings teacher for grades 3-12 Branford Public Schools in Branford, Connecticut.

I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to have a life of music. That's why I became a teacher. Whether you're a just a beginner or an advanced student needing guidance, let's explore music together. I like

teaching how to read, compose, and improvise all different styles of music.

My Classes

I offer private music lessons, by skill level, for many different instruments. If you're unsure about which level is appropriate for you, I can offer any advice you might need.

My classes are once a week for 1/2 hour, 3/4 hour and 1 hour. See the details on Book a Lesson page.

Classes

Beginner Class

This beginner level class is perfect for first-time musicians. Students will learn the basics of their instrument, reading music, and musical theory, which is the mathematics of music.

Intermediate Class

The intermediate class builds off of the skills acquired in the beginner class. Students will continue working with their instrument and reading music, and improvising.

Private virtual lessons

I have enjoyed a long fruitful musical life. I started trumpet lessons at age 5, which I studied all the way through my 4th year at Kent State University. I started guitar lessons at age nine, and cello at age 16, which I had an amazing teacher also at Kent State. The cello was my doorway to becoming a Public School strings teacher for 23 years. I have since 2006 been teaching violin, viola, and cello, mandolin, guitars, keyboards, and trumpet. in private lessons.

I use to drive over 200 miles a week teaching at a music school in Hamden Ct All Things Musical and homes of students through Musika, and from students not connected to either source. Now, since March 2020 when Covid hit, I have been teaching virtually through my iPhone., and as of last year my iPad, which is so much better. This was a goal I wanted to accomplish years ago. Now, I am so comfortable with teaching virtually. My goal is to expand my teaching to other time zones throughout the USA.

I look forward to teaching any one age 5 to whatever age.

Advanced Class

The advanced class is for students who have been playing consistently for a few years.

Students can choose their goals for learning different styles of music.
